People

Meet the people behind the CAMS research and development work.

Our team comprises of academics and senior executives with a wealth of knowledge in their domains, unified to deliver a professional customer experience through a scientific approach to asset management. Central Asset Management System is the brainchild of over 7 years of research conducted in the engineering/asset management field. Research continues to deliver a state of the art system incorporating all the features offered by novel technologies such as Internet of Things, sensor data and automated inspections. Our ultimate vision is developing intelligent and talking infrastructure which will offer fantastic community benefits.

Prof. Sujeeva Setunge.
Project and Research Lead

Sujeeva Setunge is a professor in Civil Engineering and the deputy dean for research and innovation for the school of Engineering at RMIT. Prior to joining RMIT University in 2001, she has been a lecturer and Senior lecturer at Monash University. Sujeeva graduated with Ph.D (Civil Engineering) from Monash University for her work on structural properties and failure modelling of very high strength concrete. Her current research interests in infrastructure engineering include deterioration forecasting of community buildings, bridges, seaports, stormwater network and sewers. She is currently managing a large number of government funded projects aimed at developing forecasting tools for managing community infrastructure assets. These include disaster resilience and deterioration modelling of bridges, culverts and floodways, asset management of community buildings, failure modelling of storm water assets and effect of climate change on Civil infrastructure. She is a fellow of Engineers Australia and a Chartered professional Engineer.

Prof. Ron Wakefield
Senior Advisor

Ron is currently Professor of Construction and Head of the School of Property, Construction and Project Management and Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor, International at RMIT University, Australia. Prof.. Wakefield researches and teaches at RMIT in the areas of process simulation and modelling, residential and commercial construction and uses of information technology in construction management. Ron has degrees in Civil Engineering, PhD and BE from University of New South Wales and an MSE from Princeton University, USA. Prior to joining RMIT, Prof. Wakefield was the William E. Jamerson Professor of Building Construction in the Department of Building Construction and the Associate Director for Building Technology Research at the Center for Housing Research, Virginia Tech, USA. Prof. Wakefield is a Director with Hanover Welfare Services and a member of the Victorian Building Practitioners Board.

Professor Kevin Zhang
Senior Researcher

Prof. Guomin (Kevin) Zhang is the head of Civil Engineering and Associate Dean at RMIT University. Before joining the School of  Engineering at RMIT University, he worked at the Victoria University in Melbourne, the University of New South Wales and the Collaborative Research Centre for Construction Innovation. His main research interests include infrastructure asset management, construction safety management, risk management, ICT in construction (artificial intelligence techniques, decision support system), post disaster reconstruction, innovative project delivery systems such as PPP, Alliancing and Energy Performance Contracting, green/lower carbon construction, sustainable building retrofit and renewal. He has published over 100 technical articles, including those published in internationally renowned journals such as Journal of Construction Engineering and Management (ASCE), Journal of Management in Engineering (ASCE), Construction Management and Economics, International Journal of Project Management. He was a member of the Chartered Institute of Building and is a member of the Australia Institute of Project Management. He is a regular referee for Journal of Management in Engineering (ASCE), Journal of Construction Engineering and Management (ASCE), Construction Management and Economics, and International Journal of Construction Management.

Kanishka Atapattu
Research Fellow

Civil Engineering graduate from Monash University, Kanishka Atapattu joined RMIT to complete his vacation work and has been involved in the ARC community building project for the past three years. Final year completion was done in the field of structural and fatigue analysis of Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) composites analysing the performance of its mechanical and bonded connections. Current research at RMIT includes lifecycle analysis of buildings and effective energy management with applying retrofits to existing buildings with ineffective technologies. Kanishka leads the team who manages the technical aspects of CAMS.
